  2. So this past weekend I went to an environmental activist conference and it was an amazing experience. It was so inspiring and empowering coming together with people who care and want to make a difference. We heard from so many success stories and we were taught the skills necessary to make our own success stories. I attend seminars all day on saturday all had different topics. The first was on fracking which is a really dangerous problem. Fracking is a type of gas drilling that injects water, chemicals, and sand into wells. This hydraulic combination is toxic it can lead to many health and pollution problems as well as the process of drilling vertical can lead to environmental degradation. The next seminar I went to was with an organization called move to amend. And this organizations main goal is to stop corporations from getting constitutional rights because corporations are people and they shouldn’t get rights as if they were. After that seminar I went to a Socialism and the Environment seminar that addressed the idea that we need to move away from a capitalist mindset. Then after that one I attended a seminar called the Clean Air Promise which taught me the tools to build my own coalition and fight for what I think needs to be done to help our environment. The last seminar was called Transportation America which informed us on how much High Speed rail could help reduce emissions and make for more efficient travel. Over all this experience was incredible I learned so much during the seminars and got to attend a protest and most importantly I gained the confidence and skills necessary to make a difference.

  3. Every time I have some moment on a seashore, or in the mountains, or sometimes in a quiet forest, I think this is why the environment has to be preserved. -Bill Bradley

There is so much in this world to explore and so much for us to learn from nature so get out there and enjoy it! Hopefully acknowledging how much we gain from just spending time outside will help push everyone to feel the need to protect it! Have a great weekend everyone!

  5. So I’ve just recently gotten into this group called Slow Food its really an awesome organization that supports local farms and growing and eating organic. It also pushes you to take the time to cook good meals for family and friends, which is something I think we all need to do more of. Since I am an Environmental major I am a huge fan of the sustainable farming practices promoted and used by this group and I try my best to eat a healthy diet of mostly organic foods. My parents just recently got to go to Italy to attend the Slow Food Festival where it all began and is celebrated every year! To say I am jealous of them is an understatement but I’m hoping next year I can go with them! So if you interested in this group check out this link: http://www.slowfoodusa.org/ and there are local groups all across the country that you can join and then reap the benefits of great food! Also if you have any questions I would be more than happy to try and help you out!

If anyone reading this is an excel genius please contact me! I am attempting to complete a hydro-geography project that deals with 720 data points on precipitation and I am struggling big time! I need to use a VLOOKUP function and I think I have that figured out but there is an error I need to correct on the first three data points so if you know anything or everything about VLOOKUP functions let me know ASAP! Okay thanks I hope to hear from you geniuses soon!

  7. So are you wanting to get fired up about climate change? I am currently reading the book “The Weather Makers” by Tim Flannery and it is awesome! It is a well written book on the predicament our planet is currently in because of human caused warming. It really opens your mind to the bigger picture of global warming while supplying you with overwhelming amounts of evidence that this warming is occurring. Not only is this book entertaining but it will fill you with knowledge on global warming and inspire you to make the necessary changes in your lifestyle to try and reduce your CO2 emissions. So go out and read this book and while your at it go green!

  8. Sorry I have been such a blogging slacker lately but finally here are the pictures from my labor day bouldering trip to chattanooga! It was an amazing trip the weather was great but hot and the climbing was fantastic! I had never been bouldering outside before and let me tell you I am a huge fan! Nick was also fantastic about helping me figure it all out and being beyond supportive! My favorite climb of the weekend was a V3 called Rib Cage it was way hard but way awesome! Also to continue you on with my obsessive climbing streak I went down to the red river gorge last weekend to climbing some routes. I am now proud to announce that I am consistently lead climbing! It is definitely an adjustment for me lets just say it adds a whole other fear element to climbing, but even though it scares me sometimes and it has made me cry I love it and it is my new goal to get good at it! I am beyond obsessed with climbing right now and I will be sure to update you on the many more climbing trips to come!
